Starting Fresh: Your First Clean, Step by Step
Everything you need to know about preparing your home for its first professional window clean.
What is a First Clean?
A first clean is often more intensive than a standard maintenance clean. If your windows haven't been professionally cleaned in over a year (or ever), they have likely accumulated baked-on dust, hard water minerals, and stubborn environmental grime. Your first clean takes a little longer to restore the glass to a pristine baseline.
Do You Need the Full Detail Add-On?
Standard washing removes surface dirt, but it can't remove bonded materials. The Full Detail Clean uses razors and fine steel wool to polish the glass. We highly recommend it for:
- • Windows that have never been professionally cleaned
- • Older or historic homes
- • Glass with visible paint spots or white mineral deposits
- • Pool fencing unwashed for 2+ years
What We Assess on Arrival
Before we start, we evaluate your property to ensure we use the right techniques:
- • Glass condition: Looking for existing scratches or etching
- • Frame type: Colonial/divided panes vs standard large panes
- • Grime type: Standard dirt vs hard water stains
- • Access: Determining ladder placement and safety needs
Setting Realistic Expectations
We aim for perfection, but heavily neglected windows (especially those with deep hard-water etching or degraded seals) may need two visits or specialized glass restoration to be flawless. We are always completely upfront and honest with you about what is achievable in a single visit before we begin.
After Your First Clean
The hard work is done! Once your windows are restored to a high standard, regular maintenance cleans become faster, easier, and cheaper. Starting a twice-yearly schedule protects the investment you made in your first deep clean.
